Welcome to the website for the settlement between SunTrust Mortgage, Inc. (“SunTrust”) and the United States Department of Justice (“DOJ”) regarding SunTrust’s administration of the Home Affordable Modification Program (“HAMP”).
As part of the settlement, SunTrust will provide up to $274 million to thousands of current and former SunTrust customers who suffered harm as a result of deficiencies in SunTrust’s administration of the HAMP program. Those deficiencies included misrepresentations and omissions in certain communications to SunTrust customers regarding how the HAMP program would work.
Payments have ranged from $100 to more than $50,000.
Am I eligible to receive a payment?
To have been eligible for a payment, you must have applied for HAMP and started a HAMP Trial Period Plan with SunTrust by December 31, 2012. Additionally, your loan had to be owned by the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) or the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) at the time you applied for HAMP. Mortgage loans such as HUD-FHA and HUD-VA which are insured, guaranteed or held by a federal government agency were not included in the settlement.
You were also required to qualify under at least one Victim Compensation and Restitution Plan category. You do not have to currently have a loan serviced by SunTrust to be eligible. You may be eligible even if you entered into a HAMP or alternative loan modification. You also may be eligible if your HAMP application was denied.
You also must have returned a complete Participation and Release Form by the date printed on the form (and no later than February 1, 2016) or you are not eligible to receive a payment in this settlement.
How were eligible borrowers contacted?
The Claims Administrator has completed mailing of the participation packets to all eligible borrowers. If you believe you may be eligible to receive compensation from this settlement and did not receive a participation packet, please call 1-888-643-2166 or email info@SunTrustHAMPSettlement.com.
When were payments made?
The Claims Administrator is making payments now to all eligible borrowers who submitted a complete and timely Particiation and Release Form. If you submitted a Participation and Release Form and have not received either your Auto or Review Payments, please call 1-888-643-2166 or email info@SunTrustHAMPSettlement.com. All reissue requests must be received by August 17, 2016. If you require a change of payee, the appropriate forms and required documentation must be submitted by August 2, 2016.
